Detailed landscape character assessment and review of local landscape designations
This detailed Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) describes the distinctive character of West Suffolk’s landscapes, from the Brecks and fen edge in the north of the district; the rolling clay farmlands and chalklands in the centre; to the Stour and Upper Glem valleys in the south. It explains the past actions and events that have helped shape the landscape we see today and identifies 25 unique landscape character areas in West Suffolk.  Each is described in a separate, illustrative report which incorporates guidance for managing future change.
A separate study, undertaken in parallel, reviews the district's local landscape designations within the district and provides a robust evidence base to support the recognition of valued landscapes and development of policies in the West Suffolk Local Plan.
