Great Yeldham Recreation Ground

Landscape strategy for a village sports ground which will implement the Parish Council’s vision for improvements to recreation facilities in Great Yeldham

Building on the findings of a community consultation, this masterplan maximises the effective use of all available space. The sports ground is surrounded by mature trees and includes an extensive area of hardstanding on the site of a former WW2 hangar. This brownfield area will be used for tennis courts, a MUGA, a skate park and a BMX Track. A new pavilion is sited close to a children’s play hill with a seating terrace, sand pit and zip wire. There is an extended car park, with disabled parking and a scout hut. South of the play hill, the sports facilities include two football pitches, a cricket pitch and a jogging/walking track with a sequence of exercise points. Bespoke long ‘railway seats’ reflect the former industrial use of this site and its proximity to the historic (disused) Colne Valley and Halstead Railway; the railway station was immediately to the east of the sports ground.
