Commissioned to complement the EA's Flood Risk Management Strategy for the Humber Estuary, this study explores and promotes ideas and partnerships that address flood risk issues in creative, multidisciplinary ways
The flat landscapes surrounding the Humber Estuary are protected from tidal flooding by a vast system of flood defences. Working within the framework of the EA's 35 hydrological flood areas, this study considers how the frontages of the estuary and its major tributaries might be designed in ways that deliver additional objectives alongside flood risk management, as a means to draw in extra funding and create efficiencies in delivery. It provides examples of how these designs might work in different waterfront situations. The resulting 35 reports provide a user-friendly, portfolio of opportunities for investment. They have been prepared in consultation with stakeholders representing the local authorities, government agencies, conservation groups, communities and businesses around the estuary.
