Watford Health Campus

Watford's Health Campus comprises a new regional hospital and link road, mixed use development and a riverside park - all sited on brownfield land on the steep slopes of the Colne Valley.

This is a hugely significant development opportunity, which will reconnect Watford's town centre to the riverside through a vibrant new urban quarter. But it is a challenging site for a complex scheme. The masterplan accommodates a new hospital with specialist facilities and blue route, mixed use development and infrastructure on a steep, partially contaminated site which is crossed by an embanked railway line and is (in part) within the floodplain of the River Colne.

Sheils Flynn's contribution to the multidisciplinary design team included context and constraints studies, a community and open space strategy and the design of the landscape and public realm for industrial and residential zones.
