Gainsborough Riverside

A small riverside park and walkway designed to 'bring the river to the town' as part of a masterplan for the regeneration of Gainsborough's Riverside.

Once a thriving port, the Gainsborough riverside area was stricken with environmental and economic decay as its commercial activities declined. Sheils Flynn's riverside walk and park was developed as an integral part of the construction of new flood defences and is a catalyst for the economic regeneration of Gainsborough as a whole.

The design for Corporation Yard was developed in association with local school children. Ground levels are raised so the river is visible over the flood defence wall and a new riverside walkway swirls through to the sculptural focus of the park. Bespoke artist-designed lighting and furniture is a feature of the park and the lawns are sculpted to suggest the ripples on a beach after the tide has gone out.
