Victoria Retail Park, Nottingham

A 'standard' retail park with a high quality, user friendly landscape designed to provide an attractive, distinctive experience while tackling issues of safety, security, circulation and servicing.

Detailed site analysis revealed a relatively poor quality pedestrian environment which did not provide a memorable retail experience. The re-development of some retail units provided an opportunity to transform the external environment of the car parks, site boundaries and entrance gateways. A carefully selected palette of hard and soft materials contributes a strong identity and reflects the character of neighbouring river terrace and floodplain landscapes. Lines of ash trees guide people along pedestrian priority routes and specimen weeping ash trees or clumps of birch trees mark key gateways to car parks. Throughout the scheme, CorTen steel edging, gabion walls, clipped hornbeam hedgerows, cobbled surfaces and ornamental grasses provide a highly legible, welcoming and user-friendly environment.
